Basic Skills

Whether you have just left school and want to continue your learning, or you are an adult who is considering going back to learn new skills (and brush up old skills!) or English is not your first language, there are links here to help.

English - if you want to get by and get on - reading and writing skills are essential. Once you've taken that first step you'll wonder what you were worried about!

Maths - is a part of our everyday lives. Knowing the basics will help improve your prospects - and make life a lot easier!

Costs - if you are an eligible learner, courses and testing are free.

(Eligible learner broadly means anyone who is a UK/EU citizen or who has been legally resident for at least 3 years, and who is 18 or older on 1st August of the academic year in which study begins).

Qualifications

You can use your Maths and English courses to help you achieve a nationally recognised Certificate in Adult Literacy or Numeracy. They measure skills at an equivalent level to other national qualifications.
