Retail Ambassador

Overview:

Retail Ambassadors speak up for retail, championing the sector in schools and colleges by offering their first-hand, real-life experience of working within the industry. In so doing, they perform a vital role influencing and inspiring the next generation of retail talent. The nationwide Retail Ambassador Programme has more than 300 retail employees who have volunteered their time to participate. Many have had the opportunity to visit schools and directly influence students within their local community; changing people’s misconceptions about retail and prompting them to consider the industry as a vibrant and professional career option.

Business benefits

The benefits of the Retail Ambassador Programme for business are wide ranging, and taking part will help fulfil aspects of corporate social responsibility. However, the benefits are felt by the Ambassadors themselves; the satisfaction of inspiring others. As well as this, Retail Ambassadors have also reported vast improvements in their communication and presentation skills:

“I found the experience highly enjoyable and a challenge for me to deliver to a vastly different audience than I am used to. I aim to take what I have learnt and use it in my current job.”

What qualities does an Ambassador need?

Ambassadors should be motivated people, prepared to relate personal experiences and real life scenarios to help capture the imagination of young people, raise awareness of the diverse range of jobs in retail and present the sector in a positive light.

How to get involved

In order to ensure consistent quality among Ambassadors and to prepare them for presenting to schools, a three hour training workshop and comprehensive toolkit is available which is delivered exclusively through the National Skills Academy for Retail.
